Good morning,

I have a serious complaint that needs addressed regarding the mill manager of the Halsey, OR plant.

My husband was hired on at GP about a month or so ago. He is a hard worker and was doing what he needed to do to provide for his family. We have 7 kids together, so when he got the amazing opportunity to work for GP, he was ecstatic!

Well, the mill manager was off work for a while and didn't come back until yesterday so he didn't know my husband worked there. When the mill manager got wind of my husband being employed by GP, the manager fired my husband. I do completely understand that Oregon is an at will state, but the reason given for my husband's termination was the fact that my husband was driving a car that got in an accident that severely injured a 15 year old in November of 2013. That kid is some how related to the Halsey, OR mill manager.

My husband is sincerely remorseful for the accident and the lives he changed that terrible day. Per the police report my husband swerved to miss a deer and it was raining and dark. My husband's car hit a ditch and rolled approximately 13 times. There is not a day goes by that he doesn't think about that night. The kid suffered a TBI as a result of the accident and my husband wishes he could change what happened and give that poor kid his life back. Unfortunately, that can't happen and now my husband is being punished all over again and having his life ruined in the process. My husband did 2 years in prison for assault because of the accident and has to live with this guilt for the rest of his life. Now he is being fired by someone with a grudge.

If that is how GP wants to operate then sobeit, but I will not be purchasing anymore products from GP. My husband deserves a second chance, but keeps getting the door slammed in his face at every turn! My kids Christmas may not even happen now as we are back to one income thanks to Mike Peterson!

Thank you for your time!

Companies have an absolute right to decide whether they wish to support the citizens in the states where they have their corporate headquarters through their charitable contributions or by taking a stance on social issues within those states. I also feel that they have a moral responsibility to support equal treatment of all citizens who may use their products. The recent legislation passed by the legislature in Georgia is nothing more than an attempt to steal political advantage from people of color and to maintain their control over a majority of Georgia citizens with racist legislation.

Your corporation has a great deal of influence within Georgia due to the business you have chosen to have headquartered in the state. If Georgia-Pacific cannot speak out and take action to overturn these racist policies, I will make a concerted effort to avoid all G-P products your company products for upcoming construction projects. Georgia-Pacific has been a name I have sought for decades. I will make every effort to share my thoughts with like-minded friends, family and colleagues. We must ALL stand up for equality for all for the right to fair and free elections of public officials. I urge you to stand up to this blatant power grab and oppose this legislation in Georgia in word and action!

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Stephen Carey
