Sears is a retail giant that managed to skirt folding when sales dipped to extremely low levels in recent years. The company experienced massive store closings, restructuring and rebranding – managing to climb out of a financial hole, but some experts believe Sears is still headed for financial ruin. Sears specializes in retail sales, including automotive, home furnishings and high-end clothing. Sears headquarters works with several high-end brands like Lands’ End and Kenmore, but the company is not the exclusive retailer for these brands.

Richard Warren Sears came from a wealthy family but lost it all in speculation. Sears then started working as a railroad station agent in North Redwood, Minnesota, as well as in Hennepin, Minnesota. While in Redwood, a jeweler received an impressive shipment of watches which were unwanted. Sears purchased them, then sold the watches at a low price, to the station agents and made a considerable profit.
In Minneapolis, he started a mail-order watch business. Sears started this company in 1886. He called it “R.W. Sears Watch Company.” Within the first year, he met Alvah C Roebuck, a watch repairman. The next year, they moved the business to Chicago, Illinois. In 1887 Sears published a mail-order catalog offering watches, diamonds, and jewelry.
Two years later he sold his business for $100,000 and moved to Iowa, intending to be a rural banker. Restless, however, he returned to Minnesota and established a new mail-order firm selling watches and jewelry, with Roebuck as his partner. This A.C. Roebuck & Company later became “Sears, Roebuck and Company” and in 1893 moved to Chicago.

Had a service call (000476641864867) for oven. Tech said the 'Mother Board' was burned out & with cost of board was about $500.00. Also stated since it interacts with a 2nd 'mother board' the 2nd board would likely burn out also. Since the tech never pulled out the stove I was not convinced. Had another repairman come and my oven works now. It was a simple wire. Very Very disappointed in the ethics of the tech person and that I PAID for an incorrect diagnosis. I am also grieved that when I called for the appointment I was told I could have a complimentary check of my dishwasher. Complimentary does not imply there is a cost. I was charged $50.00 for absolutely nothing. I had no idea there was a cost until after the tech person looked at the dish washer and asked me a few questions. I am extremely dissatisfied with the service. It seems to me so unethical - actually fraudulent.
